Interested in owning reindeer?

There are so many things to consider before you commit to reindeer ownership.

• First things first: contact your state vet and research the regulations regarding keeping reindeer in your state. Reindeer are not allowed in all states. 

• Contact your state Fish and Game department as they may have differing rules you must abide by.  

• If you plan to display or share your animals, contact the USDA and learn more about their APHIS exhibitor licensing process. 

• Join the Reindeer Farmers Association, a professional group of active (and prospective) reindeer farmers who share knowledge regarding the keeping, raising, and husbandry of reindeer.  

• Are you prepared for the financial commitment?  Reindeer are expensive to purchase and care for.  They are herd animals, so you must own at least two.
